For those of you that missed this in-person event in March 2023 with CM Murray LLP and guest speaker, Dr Nancy Doyle, due to popular demand, we are running the session again – this time online and with a new guest speaker, Daniel Aherne, who founded Adjust.
It is estimated that 15 to 20% of the UK population is neurodiverse, translating to around 1 in 7 people. These statistics mean that it is likely that most law firms already have a neurodiverse workforce, whether or not they are aware of it.
Whilst awareness around neurodiversity in the workplace is building significant momentum, many neurodiverse individuals do not receive diagnoses until late in their careers, or, even if they are diagnosed with a neurodiverse condition, they may choose not to declare it to their employer or to their fellow partners, as the case may be, for fear of being subject to the incredibly unfortunate stigma that has previously been associated with neurodiversity in a workplace (and more general) context. This can create significant issues for employers, from a legal, reputational and, perhaps most importantly, cultural perspective. Many of the claims that have been brought in the Employment Tribunal in recent years which relate to neurodiversity discrimination have arisen from a basic misunderstanding between the neurodiverse employee and their manager, leading to a deterioration of their relationship and ending up in a dispute. Such disputes can arguably be prevented by better management, awareness and training.
Led by Emma Bartlett and Pooja Dasgupta from CM Murray LLP, this online event will be exploring neurodiversity in law firms and law firm leadership. Emma and Pooja will explore the following topics:
- What is neurodiversity?
- How does neurodiversity fit into our disability legislation under the Equality Act 2010?
- Best practice steps an employer can consider taking to support neurodivergent workers beyond a basic tick box exercise; and
- Practical tips on recruiting neurodivergent staff.
Emma and Pooja will be joined by guest speaker, Daniel Aherne, who founded Adjust in 2016 to raise awareness of neurodiversity in the workplace.
Free for members to join. £50 +VAT for non-members.
